Nigerian singer Patrick Okorie, fondly known by his stage name, Patoranking, has been appointed the regional goodwill ambassador for Africa, the first ever by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
For two years, the new role requires the multifaceted artiste to use his influential status to primarily advocate for youth development and innovation, the Timbuktu initiative and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In an X post on June 10, Patoranking expressed his gratitude to assume the new role of empowering the youths with necessary tools and resources across Africa.
Patoranking, who is known for his dancehall and reggae music exploits, also noted that it was a privilege to use the platform to foster a cause he holds dear.
“I step into the role of UNDP Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Africa to champion youth, innovation, enterprise, and the SDGs. I get to lend my voice to important initiatives such as @timbuktooAfrica and a privileged opportunity to collaborate with young Africans to find solutions that will bring positive change and progress for our continent. Thanks to everyone, my team and @UNDPAfrica team, @ahunnaeziakonwa” he wrote.
The singer’s journey, according to UNDP Africa, is one of conquering adversity to become inspiring and successful. Despite significant financial difficulties, he came out stronger and not only that, he made a conscious effort to give back to society.
