There are so many things to reminisce about Nigeria especially with the challenging times we are currently in. 

Way before cable television, think of the days when all that mattered was going to school and coming back home to play games like tenten, tinko, tinko and other games. We knew the time of our favourite series and never forgot. 

Nostalgic old television series that bonded us as friends, neighbours, siblings and family. The one that keeps everyone on their toes running because no one wants to miss it.

The days when everyone would gather in the living engrossed in these series. We would talk about it all through, patiently waiting for the next episode. 

If there was something more memorable about these classic series, it would be the theme songs. The compositions and renditions were beautiful. 

TheRadar takes a trip down memory lane to highlight some of the old and classic favourite Television series in Nigeria in the 90s and early 2000s. 

10 nostalgic Nigerian TV series millennials would remember 

  • Fuji House of Commotion

The Nigerian sitcom was produced and directed by Amaka Igwe. It was a spin-off of a 90s soap opera called Checkmate. Fuji House of Commotion follows the storyline of a rich man called Chief Fuji, who has a polygamous home. He is married to four wives from different tribes in Nigeria. The drama and chaos of living together made the Television series both entertaining and relatable. 

  • Papa Ajasco 

Papa Ajasco sitcom was created by Wale Adenuga in 1997. It is a series of the original feature film of the same title in 1984. The story revolves around the Ajasco family and their comic interpretation of major societal issues. The sitcom was widely considered as Nigeria’s most-watched comedy TV series. 

  • Super Story

This is another nostalgic sitcom in Nigeria's TV series. It is an anthology of dramatic stories from Nigeria. It was created in 2001 by Wale Adenuga and aired on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). So far, Super Story has 41 seasons. It won the best television series at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards in

  • I Need to Know 

I Need to Know is a Nigerian family-oriented TV series that aired on the Nigerian Television Authority from 1997 to 2002. Starring Funke Akindele and Uche Ejiogu, the show was sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund as a sensitization against HIV.

  • Everyday People

A classic, Everyday People captured the story of relatable daily experiences of families in urban areas. The series starred legendary actors like Sam Loco, Nobert Young, Desmond Elliot and more. The series offered a blend of comedy, tears and suspense. It was produced by Tajudeen Adepetu. 

  • This Life

 This Life was similar to Super Story highlighting many series to show events in real life. The theme song, 'This Life is beautiful but everything seems to be falling apart’ is a memorable line that lingers for years. It was produced in the early 2000s. 

  • Binta and Friends 

As a model to show how important education was, Binta, the lead character in the series Binta and Friends influenced a lot of children to take their studies seriously. It was an educational teenage TV series. 

  • Face 2 Face 

Coined from a regular apartment mimicked as ‘Face me, I Face You’ with several rooms facing each other, Face 2 Face is another nostalgic Nigerian TV series. It shows the occupants of the apartments always engaged in a fight and drama, sometimes that is common in such settings. 

  • Dear Mother 

Dear Mother follows the story of a widow named Teju who navigates the best way to raise her three children. The series teaches the struggles widows go through to survive after the death of their husbands, raising the kids alone and other challenges. It is a beautiful family drama. 

  • Domino 

Domino kicked off in 2005 starring Kalu Ikeagwu, Femi Branch, Kate Henshaw and Angela Philips. The series is an unending plot twist of drama around a billionaire called Lord Williams, his children and a housemaid turned wife.
