Despite the Afrobeats music scene being male-dominated, who said the female artistes in Nigeria have no place?


Contrary to notions, the Nigerian Afrobeats music space has indeed evolved to create platforms for female artistes to shine and showcase their singing prowess.

Here, TheRadar compiles a list of Notable Afrobeats female collaborations in Nigeria. This is a testament to some of the amazing works female artistes have put out together over the years. 

10 notable Afrobeats female collaborations 

1. Simi - Men Are Crazy (Ft. Tiwa Savage) - 2024 

One of the most significant female collaborations in Afrobeats saw two leading music vocalists Simisola Kosoko known as Simi and Tiwa Savage join forces in a sensational track ‘Men Are Crazy. The collaboration served anticipation of fans who looked forward to what the duo could do together. ‘Men are Crazy’ combines Simi’s sonorous vocals with Tiwa’s and the delivery was smooth and beautiful as expected. The song centered on love, what women want and self discovery. 

2. Simi - Messiah (Ft. Asa) - 2024 

‘Messiah’ from Simi’s latest album ‘Lost but Found’ also featured legendary singer, Asa. The message about saving yourself first before saving another is quite powerful and poignant. The RnB sound palette could have used a lot more energy, however, considering the power embedded in their voices. In all, it was a beautiful rendition, significant to note as one Afrobeats female collaboration. 

3. Simi - Loyal (ft. Fave) - 2022

Think flawless singing and deep lyrics; these describe the combination of Simi and Fave on ‘Loyal’. The track is off Simi’s 5th studio album ‘If I’m honest’ in 2022. The fusion birthed a successful hit that captivated fans. Touching on the theme of Loyalty as the title implies, it went deep in analyzing the idea of being loyal while focusing on mutual trust. 

4. Ugoccie and Niniola - Loud - 2022

Jumping on the rave of the Amapiano, Ugoccie and Niniola teamed up to magic in ‘Loud’. On the project, Ugoccie brought in some Igbo elements that spiced up the track. The groovy sound is another powerful track from female Afrobeats stars. The collaboration also showcased young and experienced vocalists coming together to create a masterpiece. Meanwhile, Niniola is said to have influenced the Amapiano sound in Nigeria music. 

5. Asa - All I Ever Wanted (ft. Amaarae) - 2022

Tracing Asa’s music career, it might not be out of place to say she hasn’t really worked with other artistes.  Contrary to that, the music icon, known for her storytelling skills, featured Amaarae amongst other artistes in her ‘V’ album on ‘All I ever Wanted.’ The duo explored their vocals on ‘Whispering Tones’ off the album. The outcome was pleasing and entertaining music worth listening to. 

6. Guchi - I Swear (ft. Yemi Alade) - 2022 

The youthful talent of Guchi and Seasoned experience of Yemi Alade met in ‘I Swear’ released in 2022. The song served as a romantic tribute to their partners and the love that blossoms in relationships. Both artistes seem to have an African oriented taste in music and this was evidently seen in their heartfelt and melodious rendition of a love song. 

7. Liya and Simi - Adua (Remix) - 2022

‘Adua’ was a remix for Liya’s hit single. To bring a fresher and unique style to it, she brought Afrobeats vocalist Simi on board. The song whose title simply translates to ‘Prayer’ is an uplifting and relatable anthem that speaks to fans. The immersive blend of the duo elevated the song better than the former, showcasing the remarkable artistry of Simi and Liya. 

8. Tiwa Savage and Amaarae - Tales by Moonlight - 2021

This was another standout moment for Afrobeats. Tiwa Savage’s soulful tune blends seamlessly with Amaarae’s unique voice in ‘Tales by Moonlight’. The sound is relatable, distinct and captivating. The talented artistes brought in their best on the track creating an enjoyable music experience. 

9. Yemi Alade and Chidinma - Selense - 2014 

This is another notable female collaboration in Afrobeats that captured the lively and energetic singers, Chidinma and Yemi Alade. The duo jumped on the ‘Selense' song to highlight the impact of teamwork as prominent female artistes at the time. The song that explores a party and groovy vibes is still a delight for Afrobeats fans.

10. Waje - Onye (ft.Tiwa Savage) - 2013

Waje and Tiwa are two powerhouse vocalists, known for their captivating voices. In this collaboration, which came at the peak of Waje’s career, the Afrobeats divas won hearts with the melodious fusion on the single ‘Onye’.

Artiste Spotlight: ‘Born in the Wild’ a fitting climax for Tems’ music run 

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, released her debut studio album, which she titled Born in the Wild.

The Grammy-winning singer’s album was a fitting climax for her run in the music industry, which saw her win many prestigious awards and be acknowledged as one of the leading female singers from Nigeria and Africa.
