Wale Adenuga, the Chief Executive Officer of Wale Adenuga Productions, has dismissed claims by veteran actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, about being broke, describing the narrative as misleading.

Ayoyinka recently stirred public reactions after speaking about financial hardship despite his long-running role in the iconic TV series Papa Ajasco and Company.

Responding in a statement on Wednesday, March 18, Adenuga said the claims had been misinterpreted and amplified unfairly.

According to him, his initial reaction to the trending video was that the actor had creatively extended the Papa Ajasco brand into social media for financial gain.

He noted that while he was pleased with the actor’s visibility, the surrounding claims required clarification to protect the integrity of the brand.

Adenuga described Ayoyinka as a talented and versatile actor who closely mirrors the original Papa Ajasco character he created in 1976. He stressed that their relationship remains cordial, with no serious conflicts between them.

Addressing allegations of neglect, the filmmaker highlighted Ayoyinka’s background as a retired Lagos State civil servant, noting that he had enjoyed a stable career outside acting.

He added that the production company had supported the actor over the years, including providing him with vehicles and opportunities within the industry.

On the issue of brand control, Adenuga explained that restrictions around the use of the “Papa Ajasco” name are necessary to protect its identity.

However, he clarified that actors are not barred from taking external jobs, as long as they obtain proper approval when required.

He questioned the basis of Ayoyinka’s financial claims, pointing to his decades-long civil service career and benefits, including gratuities.

Adenuga also noted that other cast members regularly feature in different productions, emphasising that the company does not limit their professional growth.

He further explained that actors typically spend only a few weeks each year on set, leaving ample time for other income-generating activities.

According to him, the organisation meets its financial obligations and operates within industry standards.

Reaffirming his stance, Adenuga said any suggestion of exploitation or abandonment by the company is false.

He concluded by thanking the public for its concern and reiterated his commitment to maintaining professionalism and preserving a legacy that has entertained Nigerians for decades.
