  • Releasing an album is considered an important milestone for an artiste
  • Some big music names are expected to achieve this milestone in the second half of the year
  • Stars such as Wizkid and Asake are expected to drop albums before 2024 runs out

Afrobeats has continued to maintain its momentum in terms of popularity and reach, with its practitioners breaking records of all sorts, from streams and certifications to awards and crowd pull out.

This has made Afrobeats albums high in demand, and as we head into the second half of the year, we take a look at some of the albums that are expected to drop.

Albums to expect in second half of 2024

Asake, D’banj and Victony are among the artistes whose albums are highly anticipated as the year enters its second half.

  • Asake - Lungu Boy

Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake

This would be the artist's third album in three years. The Grammy-nominated musician announced on June 10 via his social media platforms that he would be doing a Lunga Boy world tour on the back of his most recent album, Work of Art, which was released in June 2023. Fans eagerly anticipate what Asake has in stock for them. Although the release date remains unspecified, the artiste has hinted that the release would be after his world tour.

  • D'Banj - Entertainer Sequel

D'banj to celebrate 20 years music anniversary with an album

In a HipTv interview, the Nigerian music icon D'banj talked about his plans to explore the style of music that is currently taking over the Afrobeats. Using the same opportunity to talk about a sequel to one of his biggest albums Entertainer, he talks about his plans of enlisting Mavin’s biggest stars, Ayra Starr and Rema, alongside Ruger and other top Afrobeats stars on his album. It remains to be seen if he'll also feature international stars on the album. The singer, real name Oladapo Oyebanji, has confirmed that the album will drop on June 28.

  • Wizkid - Morayo

Wizkid dedicates his upcoming album to his mother, Morayo

Dedicated to the memory of his late mother, Wizkid's sixth studio album, Morayo, is expected to arrive later this year. Mrs Morayo Balogun passed in August 2023, and her superstar son, Ayodeji Balogun, informed the public about the album in a video message shared on his social media platforms, which he described as an album to “the love of his life.”

The genre of music that he would champion on Morayo remains unknown after the singer came out publicly to say he was no longer an Afrobeats artiste.

  • Victony - Stubborn

Victony has grown in stature in the past couple of years

Victony’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of impressive, considering that he was close to losing his life in an accident and spent about four days in a coma. He collaborated with stars such as Mayorkun and Burna Boy before going on to release the global hit Soweto

That cemented his hit-making prowess and his emergence as a star in his own right. With four EPs to his credit, he is set to release his debut album, Stubborn, on June 21. His pre-released single, Stubborn featuring Asake, is already dominating the airwaves, whetting appetites ahead of the proper album release.
