“I’ve done two NYSCs…” Creative Minister Hannatu Musawa says, faces more criticism
  • The Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy in Nigeria, Hannatu Musawa, recently commented on controversies around not having an NYSC certificate prior to her appointment
  • Hannatu, in a recent interview, noted that she has done two NYSCs and declined the push to further clear the air on controversies until she is ready to do so
  • Netizens, however, have reacted to her response during the interview, sharing mixed feelings about it

Despite lingering controversies about not having the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate before her appointment, the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy in Nigeria, Hannatu Musawa, declined the urge to exonerate herself.

Hannatu, who is also a lawyer, said that on a later day when she is ready to address the controversy, she would tell the public about her own account.

Appearing in a recent interview on Channel Television’s Sunday Politics programme, on October 6, Hannatu spoke about the controversies about her NYSC certificate and the media narratives around it.

When asked by the programme host, Seun, on how she found her way into being a minister without an NYSC certificate, she noted that she didn't do anything wrong.

Well, you say that but I don't know what you have heard. You know there have been so many different accounts but the fact that I am sitting here should tell you nothing, I didn't do anything wrong.

I have not come out to set the record straight on really what happened. The media has just run wild with different accounts. You know, one day I will come out with my own account.” She said,

Still pushing to know her response to defend herself, Seun noted that she owed Nigerians an explanation and Hannatu responded, “I've probably done more NYSC than you. I've done at least two NYSCs in my life but like I said, one day, I will come out to give a proper account of what happened.”

Mixed reactions trail Hannatu Musawa’s comment on her NYSC controversy

TheRadar curated few below:

@_weyimi said, ““I've done at least two years of NYSC in my life” girlyyy you don't know what NYSC means, what they do, or what they stand for. All that eloquence for what?”

@realJudebela said, “Q: How did you find your way to being a minister without an NYSC certificate?Minister: LalalalalalalalalalalalalalaLalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala,”

@UsmanZannah asked, ““I’ve probably done more nysc than yourself…” Is this a comedy show???”

@Iamobd said, “What's really wrong with Nigeria? Kemi Adeosun resigned from the NYSC. Why is this lady's case and that of Peter Mba different? Are we now a country of flexible standards?”

@Germanprinz said, “She has a Bsc in NYSC. She skilfully avoided the question like congenital liar”

@DanielRegha commented, “If she's really in the right, why not clear the air by addressing the issue once & for all. The problem with this government is that there's zero accountability, leaders just do as they please. Imagine being accused of something, but having the audacity to say "One day" it will be addressed while still in power.”

“Idris Elba as Okonkwo?” Mixed reactions trail actor’s lead role in upcoming ‘Things Fall Apart’ series

Earlier, TheRadar reported that a TV series on Chinua Achebe’s ‘Things Fall Apart’ is currently in the development stage at A24 studio with British actor Idris Elba as the lead to play Okonkwo.

Aside from starring as the lead, the adaptation series would also be executively produced by Idris Elba alongside Gina Carter under their recently launched 22Summers production banner.

Netizens after the news shared mixed feelings about Idris Elba’s lead role, with many arguing his ability to deliver the role like the original movie
