  • Tunde of the popular Styl Plus group has shared the reason behind the group’s separation
  • Tunde revealed that the separation was largely attributed to his marriage which eventually ended
  • He also mentioned how the Nigerian music stakeholders didn't help their separation

Nigerian singer Tunde Akinsanmi, one of the founding members of the renowned music group, Styl-Plus, has revealed the real reason behind the split of the popular crew.

Several reasons over the years have surfaced to suggest why Styl-Plus went their separate ways but Tunde’s recent revelation aims to set the record straight.

In a recent edition of the official Afrobeats podcast, trending on October 28, Tunde shared details of what transpired leading to their eventual split from the group.

This is the first time that I'll just tell it as it is. You know I've been quite diplomatic about it before now. So, I got married and then, that put a lot of pressure on me. I eventually put that much pressure on the boys too because I felt Omo, I had bills to pay not just me and all that. So, maybe I take the blame that it was my fault. Maybe, I should not have put that much pressure on them as well.

We couldn't handle the pressure at the time and we had disagreements. We weren't on good terms for a little while. Since my divorce, the fog is now clearer. It is easier for me to be at peace with anybody. All the relationships I had issues with, they became clearer and I could see that throughout the time, I was just all by myself.” Tunde explained.

Tunde also revealed that he got threats from people alleging that he broke the music group. According to him, “The truth is that all through that time, me and the guys were cool because we were not just like friends, we were brothers.”

The Nigerian music industry and Styl-Plus separation

In the interview, Tunde shared how the Nigerian music industry, especially the stakeholders, who he expected should have helped to bring them back together.

According to Tunde, their fans supported them greatly during their separation and it is something they do not take for granted.

I've seen the bullshit of the industry. I've seen industry stakeholders and fathers that capitalised on the fact that we weren't together. I would like to thank the fans because they stuck to us. A whole group of them wanted to see us together. These are the roles I expected people to play but it just shows that a lot of people wanted us apart.”

It's quite shocking when they talk about Afrobeats and they skip our names. Plantation Boiz wasn't Afrobeats, it was more of RnB. Then we came with Olufunmi, which wasn't RnB. That's Afrobeats. Check the beats itself. it's not RnB but Afrobeats. The truth is a lot of people want us away but the songs will never go away. “ Tunde added.
