Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has publicly apologised to her colleague Mercy Johnson, as well as Johnson’s children and family, over past misunderstandings and quarrels within the Nigerian film industry. The actress shared her apology in a heartfelt video on her Instagram account on Wednesday, describing it as a step towards reconciliation and peace.
Addressing her fans at the start of the video, Okorie expressed gratitude for their continued support. “Hi everybody, this is your one and only Legit Queen. I just want to say a very big thank you to all my fans around the world. I am not perfect, yes, I am not,” she said.
Okorie explained that the message was specifically intended for Mercy Johnson and her family. Reflecting on personal growth and changing priorities, she said, “When you are getting older, a lot of things will be leaving you. While we were growing in the industry, some people will come and tell me that Mercy said this, some people will tell me that Angela said that. There have been issues, quarrels, chaos, logherheads… at this age, I don’t think this is what I want.”
The actress directly apologised to Johnson, emphasising that any misunderstandings or comments she made about her colleague were unintentional. “I just want to apologise to you if it’s just my words, if it’s the words I have written anytime your name pops out on social media. I am deeply sorry. You are not a witch. You are not what people are calling you. This is just to say I am sorry,” she said.
Okorie also stressed the importance of peace among families, particularly for the sake of their children. “We don’t know where our kids will meet each other tomorrow. They might be best of friends. These kids have been travelling far and wide. They can meet anywhere in the world and they can be best of friends, and we as mothers cannot stop them from being friends,” she added. She condemned bullying and stated that any form of harassment against children, including Mercy Johnson’s, was unacceptable.
Reiterating her apology, Okorie said, “So this is to say I am sorry. Deeply sorry for everything. I love everybody. Like the Bible will say, make peace with all men. I am making peace with everybody. I don’t know who I might have offended. Please knowingly or unknowingly, biko.”
She further described herself as a “sweet soul” and assured Johnson that past comments or gossip would no longer affect their friendship. “Mercy, this is a new beginning. You are my friend and you are still my friend. I will never listen to whatever anybody’s gonna tell me about you again,” she said.
Okorie also revealed that she and Johnson had privately reconciled over the phone, with both parties exchanging apologies. She concluded the video with prayers for Johnson, saying, “God in heaven knows that I don’t have anything against you. I love you, and I pray that God blesses you and lifts you higher wherever you are in Jesus’ name.”
The apology comes amid recent legal troubles for Okorie, who was arrested in Lagos by the State Criminal Investigation Department on a seven-count charge related to alleged cyberstalking, threats, and harassment. She was subsequently granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million.
This public gesture signals a new chapter in their relationship, highlighting a call for maturity, forgiveness, and professional harmony within Nollywood.
