AMVCA 2026: Full list of winners as My Father’s Shadow claims top prize

The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards was held on Saturday night at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, celebrating outstanding achievements in African film, television, and digital storytelling.

The prestigious ceremony, widely regarded as one of the biggest entertainment awards on the continent, brought together actors, filmmakers, and content creators from across Africa to honour excellence in the creative industry.

This year’s top honour for Best Overall Movie went to My Father’s Shadow, which also secured additional recognition, including Best Director for Akinola Davies Jr. The film stood out among strong contenders such as Gingerrr, The Herd, and 3 Cold Dishes.

In the acting categories, Uzor Arukwe emerged Best Lead Actor for his role in Colours of Fire, while Linda Ejiofor won Best Lead Actress for The Serpent’s Gift. In the supporting categories, Bucci Franklin was named Best Supporting Actor for To Kill a Monkey, while Linda Ejiofor also won Best Supporting Actress for The Herd, marking a double success.

The awards also recognised excellence behind the camera. Daniel Anyiam won Best Editing for To Kill a Monkey, while Jermaine Edwards claimed Best Cinematography for My Father’s Shadow. In sound and music, Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra earned Best Sound Design for My Father’s Shadow.

In the television and digital categories, Inimba won Best Scripted Series, while Nigerian Idol S10 took home Best Unscripted M-Net Original. The Best Unscripted Series award also went to Nigerian Idol, reinforcing its continued popularity with viewers.

Short film category honours went to Hussaini, which won Best Short Film, while Beyond Olympic Glory received Best Documentary recognition.

The ceremony also highlighted indigenous language productions across Africa. Lisabi: A Legend Is Born won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), while Tlhaho Ya Mosadi triumphed in the Southern Africa category. In East Africa, Addis Fikir emerged winner, while Artal Alhanin: Our Memories and Mabanda won in North and Central Africa respectively.

Special recognition awards were also presented, with veteran actress Sola Sobowale receiving the Industry Merit Award alongside Kanayo O. Kanayo. Rising star Uche Montana was honoured with the Trailblazer Award for her growing impact in the industry.

The AMVCA continues to serve as a major platform for celebrating African storytelling, with this year’s edition reflecting a strong blend of established talent and emerging voices across the continent.
