Singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has achieved astounding feats in three years. At this point, his superstar status is neither a doubt nor a facade. It is not out of place to place him among Nigeria's biggest music exports.

Maybe small, maybe not, but within these years, the singer has not rested on his oars with back-to-back hits since he broke into the mainstream in 2022.

Asake’s debut Mr Money with the Vibes dropped in 2022, and the following year, Work of Art, his sophomore album, saw 2023. And with one year apart, he is about to drop his third studio album.

Asake's Portrait

Via his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Asake, on August 5, tweeted the tracklist of his most anticipated third studio album Lungu Boy

The X engagements of 3 million views and 72,000 likes are a testament to the anticipation of fans since he first teased them with dates of his world tour and a throwback picture of himself.

The wait is over as the album will drop Friday at midnight August 9, 2024.

6 things about Asake's upcoming Lungu Boy album

As the countdown trails to Friday, TheRadar analysed 6 things from Asake’s Lungu Album. What is new? What to expect? What is obvious? the background of the artiste, and more.

From the 14-track upcoming album, there are several things fans should be excited about, from collaborations to genre exploration, and many more. It looks promising to continue Asake’s consistent run as an Afrobeats superstar.

  • Maintaining UK global status

Asake, signed to Olamide’s YBNL Nation, notably defined himself as an artiste acceptable in the United Kingdom when he had his Work of Art concert at the iconic O2 Arena in the UK. With a sold-out show, he became a global sensation. In the ‘Lungu Boy’ tracklist, the collaboration with UK superstars Stormzy and Central Cee shows his exploration of global cultural influences and the need to maintain his global status in the country.

  • New tattoos

29-year-old Asake appears with new tattoos on his upcoming Lungu Boy album cover. On the side of his face down to his cheek reads, ‘The Grind,’ which is boldly written. Another one displays on his neck —something like a symbolic hand and a star. The posture of his picture might be intentional to show off his new inscription.

  • Expanding global reach

In track 5, Active, Asake teams up with American hitmaker and rapper, Travis Scott. One that suggests his intentions to explore the American audience. He hopes to do the same with his collaboration with Brazilian superstar Ludmilla. This collaboration introduces him to new listeners and expands his global reach.

  • Most collaborative album

His debut, Mr Money with the Vibes had two collaborations with Russ on Reason and Burna Boy on Sungba. For his sophomore album, Olamide appeared as his only collaboration on the Amapiano track. With a total of five collaborations from Wizkid, Travis Scott, Central Cee, Ludmina and Stormzy, Lungu Boy is Asake’s most collaborative album yet.

  • New hairstyle

Asake was known for his long dreadlocks, black from the roots but with tinted and twisted strands. Maintaining that hairstyle since he started, Asake took off his dreads to wear a low cut recently. Now, on his album cover, he wears short twisted braids different from his usual look.

  • Fuji and cultural influences

Known for his blend of Fuji with Amapiano, fans can expect more Fuji influence in Asake’s upcoming album with tracks like Fuji vibes. With his collaboration, there is also something to expect from the cultural influences of artistes involved.

Ayra Starr solidifies her superstar status with sophomore album 'The Year I Turned 21'
