  • Some users have complained that they started the verification process and submitted their identity documents for verification over a month ago but have yet to pass and complete the process

As the Pi Network cryptocurrency project gears towards complete migration to the open mainnet and listing, many users, especially Nigerians, have found it increasingly challenging to complete their identity verification, known as Know Your Customer (KYC).

Some have complained that they started the verification process and submitted their identity documents for verification over a month ago but have yet to pass and complete the process. This is particularly worrisome given that the mainnet migration may happen in the last month of the year. The implication is that users who do not pass the KYC will be unable to transfer their mined Pi to their wallet and, hence, will not trade or use the crypto when it is listed for trading.

Eligibility for Pi KYC application

Not everyone can apply for Pi Network KYC. Here are the eligibility criteria.

1. Age

To apply for the  Pi Network KYC, users must be 18 years of age or older.

2. Clear Face

A clear face is needed for a liveliness check. Before beginning the verification process, make sure your face is easily recognisable and matches the ID.

3. Government-issued ID document

Users need a government-issued identity document. No matter the country, a government-issued ID, like a passport (recommended), driving license, or National ID is needed.

4. Mining Duration

Users must have mined Pi for at least 30 days.

5. Required Time

It takes roughly five to ten minutes to complete the KYC application process.

Steps to follow to start and complete your Pi KYC in minutes

Despite the complaint that the process is slow, the reality is that many users do not really know how to go about the KYC process. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to start and complete the Pi KYC process in minutes.

1. Download Pi browser

The first step is downloading and installing the Pi browser app from iOS or Android stores.

2. Navigate to the mainnet section

After downloading and installing the Pi browser, the next step is to launch the Pi network app and navigate to the mainnet section via the side menu.

3. Complete Mainnet Checklist Tasks

Complete every task on the Mainnet checklist tab, up until the "Submit your KYC Application" task.

4. Begin KYC Application

The KYC application tab will unlock once the prerequisite tasks have been completed. If not, manually access the “kyc.pi” area in the Pi Browser app.

5. Choose Your Country

From a drop-down menu on the first screen of the KYC section, choose your country.

6. Select Your Identity Document

Select the kind of identification document that will be used for verification; a passport is advised.

7. Comply with ID Instructions

Carefully read the directions on the four slides, then continue.

8. Take a Picture of Your ID

Select "Add front photo," then snap a sharp picture of the front of your ID. If necessary, include a back photo as well.

9. Complete the Form

Provide information on the form that corresponds to your ID document, such as:

  • First name
  • Middle name (optional)
  • Last name
  • Gender
  • Date of Birth
  • Document ID number
  • Expiry date of ID
  • Country of Residence

10. Finish the Check for Liveness

For a liveness check, click the "I am Ready" button, making sure the camera can see your face clearly.

Pi Network KYC approval timeframe

Depending on the accuracy of your information and the number of validators available in your country, KYC approval can take anywhere from a few minutes to several months.

How to check your PI KYC status

Your Pi Network app profile allows you to view your KYC status. Verification is indicated by a green checkmark; a loading animation indicates that your application is still pending.

You can also check the Mainnet checklist section. Your KYC has been validated if the "Wait for KYC results" tab is green.
