- The Corporate Affairs Commission announces free business name registration for 3,500 small businesses nationwide
- The initiative covers all 36 states including the FCT
- The commission’s Registrar-General, Hussaini Magaji, announced redesigned website to feature AI Lawyer and business name generator
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has unveiled a nationwide initiative to register 3,500 small businesses free of charge across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The announcement was made on Monday, February 9, by the commission’s Registrar-General, Hussaini Magaji, in a post on the CAC’s official X handle.
Magaji explained that the programme is intended to ease the financial burden of business formalisation for micro and small enterprises while motivating more entrepreneurs to operate within the formal sector.
According to Magaji, the move underscores the commission’s dedication to fostering entrepreneurship, cutting start-up costs, and promoting inclusive economic growth nationwide.
“In the spirit of the celebration, the CAC has announced free business name registration for 3,500 small businesses, to be distributed across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory,” the commission said in a statement.
Magaji further noted that the initiative is structured to help small businesses formalise their operations, giving them better access to government services, financing opportunities, and broader participation in the economy.
Reflecting on the commission’s 35-year history, the registrar-general described the CAC as a product of vision, innovation, and sustained commitment to national development. He added that the agency has transformed into a technology-driven institution with a strong emphasis on efficiency, transparency, and adherence to global best practices.
In addition, Magaji disclosed that the CAC is set to sign a collaboration letter with Google to bolster its digital infrastructure and service delivery. He said the partnership would enhance portal performance and further improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
The registrar-general also announced the rollout of a redesigned CAC website equipped with new digital tools, including an AI Lawyer and a business name generator.
According to him, the AI Lawyer will offer instant guidance on CAC laws and procedures, while the business name generator will make it easier for entrepreneurs to reserve scalable business names.
