Victor Osimhen and Henry Onyekuru are now the most-followed Nigerian footballers on Instagram.
Super Eagles Osimhen's popularity in Turkey continues to grow, influencing his social media presence.
  • Osimhen’s Instagram following has grown from 4.4 million to over 5 million
  • Galatasaray’s X account surpassed 1 million followers after Osimhen's arrival
  • Victor Osimhen's transfer from Napoli to Galatasaray has seen a surge in both his and the club's social media followings

When Victor Osimhen joined Galatasaray, it didn’t just shake up European football, it created waves in the digital space too.

The Nigerian star's transfer from Napoli on a season-long loan has been a massive win for the Turkish side, but the real catch lies in the mutual exchange of online attention.

Since the transfer, Galatasaray’s social media accounts, especially X (formerly Twitter), have seen remarkable growth, gaining more than 100,000 followers and breaking the 1 million follower mark.

It however looks like Galatasaray fans in return have rewarded Osimhen with a significant boost in his social media following. His Instagram page skyrocketed past the 5 million follower mark, a feat that coincides with his brilliant debut and consistent excellence in each of his previous appearances for the Turkish club.

Osimhen's Instagram following surged from 4.4 million to 4.5 million within just 24 hours of his transfer announcement on September 3. Over the couple of days, he has added nearly 850,000 more followers.

The Nigerian forward has also been consistent on the pitch, so far, Osimhen has contributed two goals for Galatasaray, playing a key role in their campaign in the Turkish Super Lig. His latest display of skill was instrumental in Galatasaray’s 3-1 triumph over Fenerbahçe in the historic Intercontinental Derby, a victory that snapped Fenerbahçe’s 32-match unbeaten run.

Osimhen’s Instagram growth has also put him in an elite group, as he now matches Henry Onyekuru, another Nigerian football star, with both holding 5.1 million followers on the popular lifestyle platform. With the season is still in its early stages, the 25-year-old’s rising fame in Turkey and beyond could see his social media presence grow even further.

The mutual relationship between Osimhen and Galatasaray’s online fanbase shows the power of football stars to elevate both their brands and those of their clubs, with a perfect example being the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo who plays for Saudi side, Al-Nassr. This tit-for-tat digital boost involving Galatasaray and Osimhen will most likely strengthen as the season progresses.

Why Victor Osimhen’s mask could be banned after collision in last game

Previously, TheRadar reported that in a dramatic turn of events following Victor Osimhen’s much-anticipated debut for Galatasaray, the protective mask he’s worn since a severe facial injury in 2021 may now be facing scrutiny in Turkey.

The striker, known for his agility and power, delivered a stellar performance in his team’s 4-1 victory over Çaykur Rizespor, contributing an assist and displaying the kind of dynamism fans were eager to see.
