- West Ham prepared cautiously for the London derby, recognising Fulham’s strong team cohesion under Marco Silva
London, 4 March 2026 – West Ham United manager Nuno Espírito Santo has commended Alex Iwobi, midfielder for Fulham, ahead of their Premier League London derby clash, highlighting the Nigerian’s recent performances.
Speaking ahead of the match, Espírito Santo praised Iwobi for his goal in Fulham’s recent victory over Tottenham Hotspur, noting that the midfielder had scored in consecutive Premier League matches for the first time this season.
Iwobi’s strike proved decisive in Fulham’s 2-0 win against Spurs. With Fulham initially ahead through Harry Wilson’s opener, Iwobi doubled the lead in the 37th minute with a superbly curled strike from outside the box, demonstrating his composure and technical ability.
“They are a very good team. They’ve been showing it year after year. Marco Silva is doing an amazing job,” Espírito Santo said, referring to Fulham’s manager. “He’s been there for a long time, and you can tell from the way things work and how they stick together that they’re a strong team.”
The Portuguese coach singled out Iwobi for praise, citing his goal against Tottenham as evidence of the player’s talent. “Alex Iwobi, the goal that he scored… they have so many talented players,” he added.
Fulham’s consistent performances this season have made them a formidable opponent in the Premier League, and West Ham will be wary of Iwobi’s influence as they prepare for the high-stakes London derby.
