Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen’s sensational performances on loan at Galatasaray have placed him firmly on the radar of Europe’s elite clubs, but his potential move to Manchester United has stirred polarising opinions.

The Nigerian forward, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, has delivered an impressive tally of 13 goals and 6 assists in 17 appearances across all competitions, making headlines in Turkey.

Reports have linked Osimhen with a host of top European clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. Napoli has reportedly set a €75M release clause for the Nigerian forward, further intensifying transfer speculations.

Turkish journalist labels Osimhen overrated

Serhat Ulureren, a prominent Turkish football journalist, criticised Osimhen’s valuation and questioned his suitability for top-tier clubs like Manchester United.

Speaking to a Turkish press outlet, Ulureren remarked,

“Victor Osimhen is overrated in my opinion. He is never a €50-60 million striker. He is a good centre-forward but not a good striker.”

Comparing Osimhen to Galatasaray’s talisman, Mauro Icardi, Ulureren argued that the Nigerian lacks the qualities to justify his hefty price tag,

“Osimhen cannot meet Galatasaray's needs as much as Mauro Icardi. He wears down opposition defences and creates space for teammates, but he is not worth that money. Let him go to the Premier League, play for Manchester United, he will be disgraced,” he concluded.

Yobo Champions Osimhen’s Move to Manchester United

Contrasting Ulureren’s viewpoint, former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has encouraged Osimhen to seize the opportunity to join Manchester United, should an offer materialise.

Yobo, a Premier League legend with 228 appearances and 67 clean sheets, described the Red Devils as a “perfect fit” for Osimhen.

“For me, it’s a no-brainer, Victor and Manchester United are a perfect fit, and there’s no doubt he would thrive if they signed him,” Yobo said.

Yobo emphasised Manchester United’s ongoing transition under Ruben Amorim, praising the new coach’s vision,

“Even though they are struggling in transition, Manchester United are still among the top three clubs in the world. If Amorim wants Victor to be a leader in this exciting project, he shouldn’t think twice,” Yobo added.

Osimhen’s current stance is clear, he intends to finish the season with Galatasaray before considering a summer transfer. Meanwhile, Manchester United recently eliminated Arsenal in the FA Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout.
