- Emery, already a four-time Europa League winner, is targeting a record-extending fifth title with Aston Villa
Unai Emery reached another milestone in his tenure as manager of Aston Villa after guiding the club to his 100th victory in charge, becoming the fastest manager in the club’s history to reach the mark.
According to BBC Sport on Friday, March 13, Villa secured the landmark win against Lille OSC in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie in the UEFA Europa League.
The achievement underscores the remarkable transformation at the Midlands club since Emery was appointed in October 2022.
The Spanish manager reached the 100-win milestone in just 181 matches, giving him a 55.2 per cent win rate, the highest of any manager in the club’s history.
His record surpasses the previous benchmark held by former Villa boss Ron Saunders, who required four seasons to reach 100 victories with the club.
Saunders remains one of Villa’s most celebrated figures, having led the club back to the top flight, secured two League Cup titles and guided them to the 1980–81 First Division championship before their famous European Cup triumph in 1982.
Since returning to English football, Emery has steadily rebuilt Villa into a competitive force both domestically and in Europe.
His tactical discipline and attention to detail have strengthened the team significantly, particularly at home, while also enabling them to compete confidently on the continental stage.
Among Premier League managers during Emery’s spell at Villa Park, only fellow Spaniards Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Mikel Arteta of Arsenal FC have recorded more wins, with 137 and 118 respectively.
Despite reaching the milestone, Emery downplayed the achievement after the match, insisting that the team’s continued improvement and ambitions in Europe remain the main focus.
A four-time winner of the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla FC and Villarreal CF, Emery is hoping to lead Aston Villa deep into the competition again as he pursues a record-extending fifth title.
Under his guidance, Aston Villa continued to build momentum, with growing belief that further success could be on the horizon.
