- Achraf Hakimi was formally indicted and will face trial in France over a rape allegation dating back to February 2023, after the investigative phase concluded
- The complaint involved a 24-year-old woman who alleged an assault at Hakimi’s Boulogne-Billancourt residence; prosecutors requested the case proceed to criminal court in August 2025
- Hakimi consistently denied the allegations, calling the accusation false, and stated he awaited trial to publicly establish the truth
Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain defender and captain of the Morocco national team, is set to face trial over an allegation of rape, French media reported on Tuesday, citing judicial sources and the player’s legal team.
The case originates from a complaint filed on 26 February 2023 by a then-24-year-old woman, who alleged that she was raped at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, after they met via social media and she visited on 24 February. A formal indictment against the former Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Real Madrid player followed five days later.
Prosecutors in Nanterre had requested in August 2025 that the case proceed to trial before a criminal court. Tuesday’s announcement marks the conclusion of the investigative phase, with the investigating judge deciding to move forward with legal proceedings.
Hakimi, now 27, has consistently denied the allegations, insisting that the encounter was consensual. In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, he expressed frustration with the legal process while reiterating his innocence.
“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it’s false. This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly,” Hakimi said.
No official trial date has yet been announced. The case is expected to draw significant attention in France and internationally, given Hakimi’s high-profile status in professional football.
