- Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes Victor Osimhen could be Chelsea’s long-awaited solution in attack.
- Juventus are reportedly preparing a player-plus-cash deal, while Manchester United are also monitoring Osimhen’s situation.
- Osimhen is currently on international duty and recently proved his quality by scoring twice in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Rwanda.
With Chelsea still struggling to find a consistent goal scorer, former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has backed Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the perfect fit to solve their attacking woes.
Speaking in an interview recently, Pennant confidently stated that Osimhen would transform Chelsea’s fortunes if they managed to secure his signature.
Osimhen, who has been heavily linked with the Blues for the past two years, reportedly rejected their offer last summer due to personal terms. However, Chelsea are believed to be preparing another bid, hoping to lure him to Stamford Bridge in the next transfer window.
Why Pennant believes Osimhen is the answer
According to Pennant, the Nigerian forward possesses everything Chelsea currently lacks in front of goal.
Comparing him to current Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, the former Liverpool star argued that Jackson’s inconsistency in finishing has cost the team crucial points,
“He (Osimhen) would change things for Chelsea without a shadow of a doubt. He knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. His numbers are flying in, his numbers are great,” Pennant remarked.
He also pointed out Chelsea’s struggles in attack, adding,
“Jackson gets three or four clear-cut chances in a game but his conversion rate isn’t great. You’re left scratching your head wondering how Chelsea end up with a draw or a loss.”
Osimhen’s future: Chelsea, Juventus, or Manchester United?
Osimhen’s future remains a hot topic in the transfer market. The 26-year-old, who fell out with Napoli, has been in sensational form on loan at Galatasaray, scoring 20 goals and providing four assists in 20 Super Lig appearances. Across all competitions, he has recorded 26 goals and five assists in 30 games.
While Chelsea remain keen on signing him, Juventus are reportedly preparing a player-plus-cash deal to lure him to Turin. Meanwhile, Manchester United are also monitoring his situation, potentially setting up a transfer battle for the Nigerian star.
Osimhen, currently on international duty with Nigeria, reinforced his reputation by scoring both goals in the Super Eagles’ 2-0 win over Rwanda in a crucial World Cup qualifier. Whether Chelsea will finally land their long-time target remains to be seen, but Pennant is convinced he could be the missing piece in their puzzle.
