- Super Falcons captain Ajibade has now scored three goals in four Liga F matches this season
- Ajibade had 65 touches, created three key chances, and achieved a 74% pass accuracy
- Super Eagles striker Victor Olatunji scored in Sparta Prague’s 3-2 loss to Sigma Olomouc
Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, displayed an exceptional performance during Friday, September 27 Madrid Derby, leading Atletico Madrid Femenino to a 4-0 triumph over Madrid CFF in Liga F. Ajibade, 25, scored one of the goals, boosting her season tally to three in just four matches.
The game started with Atletico firmly in control, and they quickly reaped the rewards when Paola Ulloa of Madrid CFF accidentally netted an own goal in the 21st minute. After the break, Ajibade took charge, extending Atletico's lead with a superb finish in the 51st minute. Though her apparent second goal was later credited as another goal, her contributions to the match were undeniable.
The Nigerian forward was an attacking menace throughout the match, with 65 touches, a 74% passing accuracy from 34 passes, and three key chances created. Ajibade also had two shots on target, completed five successful dribbles out of 10 attempts, and contributed significantly to Atletico's defensive efforts by winning 10 out of 17 ground duels and her only aerial duel.
Atletico's win was sealed in added time when Synne Jensen scored their fourth goal, they are now top of the Liga F standings with 12 points from four games.
Meanwhile, in the Czech top flight, Nigerian striker Victor Olatunji found the back of the net for Sparta Prague in a 3-2 loss to SK Sigma Olomouc. Olatunji opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a well-placed header from Kaan Kairinen's corner. Unfortunately, Sparta’s early advantage was undone as Sigma Olomouc hit back with goals from Yunusa Muritala, Jan Fiala, and Filip Zorvan.
Despite his goal, Olatunji's performance came with its inconsistencies. In 71 minutes, he lost possession 11 times, completed only 63% of his passes, and won just one of five ground duels. Despite Ermal Krasniqi scoring in stoppage time, Sparta's hopes for a comeback faded as they dropped to second place in the league, trailing Slavia Prague on goal difference.
Former Super Eagles coach Peseiro shares why he didn't continue with Nigeria
Previously, TheRadar reported that Former Super Eagles coach José Peseiro has finally revealed why he parted ways with Nigeria after leading the team to the 2023 AFCON final.
His decision to step down, despite coming close to winning Africa's most prestigious football tournament, was long concluded even before the AFCON final match in Côte d’Ivoire. His contract expired after the tournament, and negotiations for a renewal fell through, primarily due to salary demands that the NFF could not meet.
