- The Jamaica Football Federation has explained the reason behind the cancellation of the planned friendly between the Reggae Girlz and Nigeria’s Super Falcons
- The federation said the decision was influenced by administrative and FIFA compliance considerations
- JFF dismissed reports claiming Jamaica was solely responsible for the cancellation due to administrative lapses
The Jamaica Football Federation has explained why the proposed international friendly between the Reggae Girlz and Nigeria’s Super Falcons was cancelled, saying the decision was based on administrative and FIFA compliance concerns.
In a statement released by the federation, the JFF said the match, initially planned to hold in England, was called off to ensure that all procedures and logistical arrangements aligned with international football regulations.
“The Jamaica Football Federation has reaffirmed its commitment to FIFA compliance and transparency following recent reports surrounding the proposed fixture involving the Reggae Girlz and Nigeria,” the statement read.
“Contrary to reports suggesting that the fixture was cancelled due to ‘administrative issues’ on the part of Jamaica, the facts are as follows.”
According to the federation, the proposed dates for the friendly were May 27, 28, or 30, 2026.
However, the JFF noted that those dates were outside the official FIFA Women’s International Window fixed for June 1 to June 9, 2026.
It stated, “As a result, clubs would not have been obligated under FIFA regulations to release players for international duty during the proposed period.”
The federation stressed that it had informed organisers of the situation from the outset while discussions continued in an attempt to find a workable solution.
The anticipated clash between the Reggae Girlz and the Super Falcons had attracted attention as a potentially competitive encounter involving two highly regarded women’s national teams from Africa and the Caribbean.
With the cancellation now confirmed, the Super Falcons are expected to seek alternative friendly matches as part of their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
FIFA Women’s Rankings: Super Falcons stay unchallenged as Africa’s No. 1
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that Nigeria’s Super Falcons continued to prove their dominance in African women’s football, holding firm at 36th place globally in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking released on March 6, 2025.
Despite mixed results in the fixtures before the ranking, the Super Falcons remained the top-ranked African side, proving their standing as the continent’s most successful women’s national team.
