- Alexander Isak has scored 11 goals in his last 8 matches, improving Newcastle United's chances for a UEFA Champions League spot
- Isak credits hard work and ambition as the driving forces behind his sensational goal-scoring streak
- Newcastle faces an in-form Bournemouth team, unbeaten in 10 matches, in their next Premier League fixture
Newcastle star forward Alexander Isak is riding the wave of an extraordinary goal-scoring streak as Newcastle United gear up for a crucial Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
The Swedish forward has netted 11 times in his last eight matches, propelling The Magpies into the coveted UEFA Champions League spots and drawing comparisons to Jamie Vardy’s record for scoring in most consecutive games in Premier League history.
Speaking to sports expert Peter Crouch ahead of Saturday’s match, January 18, the 25-year-old expressed his determination to become one of football’s best,
"I always aim as high as possible. I want to be the best, that is the ambition, and I will have to keep working hard and doing good things, which I am doing at the moment," Isak revealed.
After a challenging start to the season, where Isak scored just once in Newcastle's first six league games, the forward has rediscovered his form, much to the delight of the club’s supporters.
In November, fans unveiled a massive tifo display in his honour ahead of a match against West Ham. Reflecting on his connection with Newcastle fans, Isak said,
"It is amazing. [The fans] love their team and they love their striker. Scoring goals in front of these fans is the best feeling I’ve had in my career," the Swedish star mentioned.
Isak’s resurgence has coincided with Newcastle’s exceptional run of form. Eddie Howe’s side recently secured their ninth consecutive victory across all competitions, including a commanding 3-0 win over Wolves that lifted them to fourth in the Premier League standings.
The striker credited the team’s unity and hunger for Champions League football as key motivators,
"If you look two months back, we were in a completely different place. Now we have had a good run and we are fourth," Isak said.
However, Newcastle’s momentum will be tested against a Bournemouth side enjoying an impressive 10-game unbeaten streak under Andoni Iraola. Isak acknowledged the challenge ahead, emphasising the importance of maintaining focus,
"They are also on a good run. Any game will be difficult if you are not on it and doing the right things," he noted.
Alexander Isak is inching closer to Premier League history, with only Ruud van Nistelrooy and Jamie Vardy boasting longer goal-scoring streaks.
Van Nistelrooy scored in 10 consecutive matches in the early 2000s, while Vardy shattered the record during Leicester City's 2015/16 title-winning campaign by scoring in 11 straight games.
With eight consecutive matches already under his belt, Isak is just three games shy of Vardy’s record. However, he emphasised the importance of playing freely without the pressure of breaking records to maximize his performance,
“Thinking about records would only get in my head,” he explained.
All eyes are now on Isak as Newcastle continues their stellar season.
