Inter Milan have secured a place in the final of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League after edging out Barcelona 4-3 in a dramatic second-leg semi-final clash at the San Siro on Tuesday, May 6, night.
Following a pulsating 3-3 draw in the first leg in Spain, both sides entered the return fixture with everything to play for. Inter struck first, taking a commanding two-goal lead through Lautaro Martinez and a penalty from Hakan Calhanoglu.
But just like in the first leg, Barcelona responded with resilience. Goals from Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo brought the visitors level, setting up a frantic final stretch.
With just three minutes of regular time remaining, Raphinha appeared to have sealed the win for Hansi Flick’s men with a clinical strike to make it 3-2. However, Inter refused to give in.
A late equalizer from Inter forced extra time, where substitute Davide Frattesi produced a moment of magic, curling in a sublime winner to make it 4-3 on the night and 7-6 on aggregate.
Under manager Simone Inzaghi, Inter now advance to their first Champions League final since 2010, when they famously lifted the trophy under José Mourinho.
They will face the winner of the other semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, with the second leg scheduled for Wednesday. PSG hold a slim 1-0 lead after the first leg at the Emirates Stadium.
