- AC Milan’s defender Fikayo Tomori, once a Chelsea prospect, could make a shock return to Stamford Bridge as part of a major swap deal
- Chelsea could benefit significantly by landing a star attacker or reinforcing their defence in a deal that suits both clubs
- Chelsea recently offloaded multiple players in January, including Chilwell and Chukwuemeka, in a squad rebuild
Two of Europe's elite clubs Chelsea and AC Milan are reportedly engaged in discussions over a sensational swap deal involving three high-profile players.
According to major reports, Milan is eager to secure Joao Felix on a permanent transfer and is prepared to offer either Rafael Leao or Fikayo Tomori in return.
The London club was highly active during the January transfer window, offloading several players to streamline their squad. Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka found new homes at Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund, respectively.
Meanwhile, Joao Felix, who had been linked with a move to Aston Villa, ultimately secured a loan move to AC Milan until the end of the season.
Felix made an instant impact in Italy, scoring on his debut during Milan’s 3-1 victory over AS Roma. His performance has seemingly convinced Milan’s hierarchy to pursue a permanent deal for the Portuguese star.
Milan’s tempting offer: Leao or Tomori?
Milan are reportedly willing to part ways with either Rafael Leao or Fikayo Tomori in a bid to land Felix.
Leao has long been linked with a move away from the San Siro, with numerous top European clubs monitoring his situation. Chelsea, who have previously expressed interest in the Portuguese forward, could now have an opportunity to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Tomori, on the other hand, is a former Chelsea academy graduate who left the club in search of regular game time. The England international has been a key player for Milan but was recently linked with a move to Tottenham.
A return to Chelsea could be on the cards should Milan opt to include him in the swap deal.
Felix open to staying at Milan
Felix, 25, appears content at Milan and has hinted at a desire to stay beyond his loan spell. Speaking in his unveiling press conference, he expressed his admiration for the club and its supporters,
"I knew about the greatness of this club, when you’re inside, you realise you’re in one of the biggest clubs in Europe. For now, I’m on loan until June. Let’s see how it goes. If there’s a possibility to stay at Milan, I would like that."
With Chelsea keen on bolstering their squad and Milan determined to keep Felix, negotiations could lead to one of the most exciting transfer deals of the summer.
