- Victor Osimhen has excelled at Galatasaray since his loan move from Napoli, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in nine games
- Galatasaray is exploring a €50m permanent transfer but faces financial constraints to cover both the fee and his salary
- Club president Dursun Özbek emphasised the focus on winning the league title while Osimhen remains committed amid transfer speculations
Victor Osimhen’s season-long loan move to Galatasaray has turned out to be nothing short of impressive, with the Nigerian striker making an immediate impact at the Turkish club and getting lauded by several Pundits and football legends.
Having been pushed out of Napoli’s plans, Osimhen has proven his worth in Istanbul, netting eight goals and providing four assists in just nine appearances.
His blistering form has made him one of the most coveted forwards in Europe, but his future remains up in the air, with the club unsure whether they can make his move permanent.
Osimhen's move to Galatasaray from Napoli came after a summer of speculation and uncertainty. The 25-year-old was sidelined in the Serie A club’s plans, but his quick adaptation to Galatasaray has made the Turkish side one of the most formidable teams in the Super Lig this season.
He has been crucial in maintaining the club’s position at the top of the table, with his goal-scoring prowess lighting up Turkish football.
Despite his success, the question of whether Galatasaray can afford to sign him permanently remains a major obstacle.
The club, though ambitious, faces significant financial challenges. Reports have suggested that Galatasaray is considering a €50 million move for Osimhen, a sum that would stretch their financial limits.
With Osimhen’s current salary and potential transfer fee, the club would need to carefully manage their finances to make a permanent deal viable.
Galatasaray’s president, Dursun Özbek, addressed these concerns, stressing that the club’s primary goal this season is to win their 23rd league title—a feat that would earn them their coveted fifth star on the club’s badge.
While Özbek acknowledged the interest from several top European clubs, he was adamant that Osimhen’s future would be determined by financial factors,
“We are focused on our league title and the fifth star, Osimhen is our player this season, and of course, all clubs want him at the end of the season. But it all depends on financial factors.”
Amidst the transfer speculation, Osimhen has kept his focus on helping Galatasaray achieve their goals, downplaying any talk of a potential move. Meanwhile, Galatasaray’s Deputy-President Abdallah Kavukcu said in an interview recently that the club has the financial muscle to pursue any player they desire, including Osimhen,
“If Galatasaray wants a player, we will be at that table, we have the power to buy more Osimhens if that is what our coach needs,” Kavukcu stated confidently.
With Osimhen’s future uncertain, all eyes will be on how the Nigerian striker continues to perform for Galatasaray as they aim for another league title.
Whether he remains with the Turkish champions beyond this season will depend on the club’s financial flexibility and the demands of the player himself.
“Don't do it,” Galatasaray assistant manager sends message to board on Osimhen’s transfer
Previously, TheRadar reported that Galatasaray’s acquisition of Super Eagles forward Osimhen in early September was a surprise move, one that saw the Nigerian star sign on loan just days after the European transfer window closed, although linked with several Premier League clubs and even a rumoured lucrative Saudi offer, Osimhen found a new home in Istanbul.
However, Galatasaray Assistant Manager Ismael Garcia Gomez has sounded a cautionary note about Victor Osimhen’s future with the club, casting doubt on Galatasaray’s potential financial pursuit of a permanent deal for the striker.
