- Galatasaray left Victor Osimhen out of their Turkish Cup tie against Alanyaspor for active rest
- The club balances a congested schedule, including Süper Lig title chase and Champions League knockout fixtures
- Osimhen emphasised taking matches one at a time, highlighting the crucial upcoming games against Beşiktaş and Liverpool
Galatasaray have decided to leave Victor Osimhen out of their Turkish Cup Group A tie against Alanyaspor on Tuesday, as the Istanbul giants manage player fitness ahead of a congested run of fixtures.
Already qualified for the next stage, Galatasaray aim to complete their group-stage campaign in the Ziraat Turkish Cup with a perfect four-game record, having won their first three matches.
The decision to rest Osimhen, along with other key players, was described by the club as “active rest” in an official statement, allowing the squad to recover and prepare for domestic and European challenges.
Osimhen, who scored a goal and provided an assist in Galatasaray’s 3-1 Süper Lig victory over Alanyaspor at the weekend, acknowledged the importance of managing fitness during this critical stage of the season.
Galatasaray face a daunting schedule, with six matches in just 19 days. This includes a two-legged UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Liverpool and a crucial away derby against bitter domestic rivals Beşiktaş.
In the Süper Lig, Galatasaray are chasing a fourth consecutive league title and recently progressed to the Champions League round of 16 after a dramatic tie against Juventus. The upcoming fixtures are considered decisive for both domestic and continental ambitions, with challengers Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor ready to capitalise on any slip in the title race.
Following Saturday’s win, Osimhen urged his teammates to stay focused, stressing the importance of taking one match at a time.
“The Beşiktaş match is a critical one,” Osimhen said on the club’s official website. “We’re taking it one match at a time. Of course, it will be a big match. A very high-quality team awaits us, but we also have a very high-quality team. We’ll go there for three points. It won’t be easy. First the Beşiktaş match, then Liverpool—but let’s not forget we also have a cup match against the team we just played. There are many more matches ahead of us until the end of the season.”
The Nigerian international’s comments highlight the club’s cautious approach, balancing domestic ambitions with a Champions League campaign that promises high stakes and intense competition.
With Osimhen rested, Galatasaray will rely on squad depth to maintain momentum in the Turkish Cup while ensuring key players are fit for decisive clashes that could define their season on multiple fronts.
