Here's a detailed look at how the top six teams performed in another unforgettable week of Premier League action.

How the top 6 EPL clubs performed

Here's a summary of how the top 6 teams performed:

Bournemouth 0-2 Liverpool

Egypt’s Mohamed Salah further etched his name into Premier League history as he inspired Liverpool to a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. The Egyptian forward netted twice, surpassing Thierry Henry to become the league’s sixth-highest all-time goalscorer.

Liverpool took control in the first half when Cody Gakpo won a penalty after being brought down by Bournemouth captain Ryan Christie. Salah stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to put the visitors ahead.

The Reds tightened their grip on the game in the second half, with Salah doubling the lead in stunning fashion, curling a brilliant effort into the top corner. The win extended Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to nine points as they continue their charge toward a second Premier League title.

Bournemouth, who had been unbeaten in 11 league games before this encounter, struggled to break through Liverpool’s defence and remain in seventh place.

Manchester United 0-2 Crystal Palace

Manchester United’s struggles at Old Trafford continued as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s brace fired Crystal Palace to a 2-0 victory on Sunday. The defeat marked United’s fifth loss in six home league matches, dropping them to 13th while Palace climbed above them into 12th.

Manager Ruben Amorim made a weird decision by deploying Kobbie Mainoo as a striker, a move that nearly paid off when the midfielder struck the post early on.

However, United’s early energy faded, allowing Palace to grow into the game. Mateta came close before eventually breaking the deadlock in the 60th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball after Maxence Lacroix’s header struck the crossbar.

United’s misery continued when Lisandro Martinez suffered a knee injury late in the game. Mateta sealed Palace’s win in the 89th minute, finishing off a Daniel Muñoz cross.

Brentford 0-2 Tottenham

Tottenham finally put an end to their four-game Premier League losing streak with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday night, February 2. Ange Postecoglou’s side, desperate for a turnaround, took full advantage of a fortunate Vitaly Janelt own goal before sealing the win late on through Pape Sarr’s clinical counterattack.

Despite the lack of flair, Spurs showed resilience against a determined Brentford side, who launched waves of attacks, especially in the second half. However, Tottenham’s deep defensive line held firm, frustrating the hosts with disciplined moves.

Sarr’s late strike, set up by captain Heung-Min Son, eased Spurs’ nerves and ensured a crucial three points that lifted them to 14th in the table.

Arsenal 5-1 Manchester City

Arsenal delivered a statement performance at the Emirates Stadium, thrashing reigning champions Manchester City 5-1 to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

Mikel Arteta’s men wasted no time asserting dominance, taking the lead inside two minutes after Manuel Akanji lost possession, allowing Kai Havertz to tee up Martin Odegaard for a clinical finish.

City responded in the second half when Erling Haaland nodded home in the 55th minute, but Arsenal immediately regained control as Thomas Partey’s long-range strike deflected off John Stones and past Ederson.

Teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly marked his night with a brilliant goal just past the hour, before Havertz hammered in a fourth to deepen City’s misery. Substitute Ethan Nwaneri then added the final touch with a stoppage-time stunner.

The win moved Arsenal to within six points of leaders Liverpool, while City, now 15 points off the top, saw their title defence suffer another blow.

Chelsea vs West Ham

The match is scheduled to take place on Monday 03 February 2025.
