- Cole Palmer had publicly backed Liam Rosenior, urging patience as Chelsea struggled for consistency
- The Blues had endured a difficult run, including a heavy Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain
- Palmer had stressed that a full pre-season and improved squad performance could help Rosenior turn things around
Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has voiced his support for head coach Liam Rosenior, as the club continues to navigate a challenging period in the Premier League season.
Rosenior took charge of the Blues in January following the dismissal of Enzo Maresca, but results have yet to improve significantly. Since his appointment, Chelsea have struggled for consistency, culminating in a heavy exit from the UEFA Champions League after an 8-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16.
Domestically, the situation remains precarious. Chelsea currently sit sixth in the league table with 48 points from 32 matches, leaving their hopes of securing qualification for next season’s Champions League hanging in the balance.
Speaking to The Guardian, Palmer defended his manager, highlighting the difficulties of taking over mid-season. He suggested that Rosenior has not yet had the opportunity to fully implement his ideas due to limited training time and the absence of a proper pre-season.
“Hiring a manager mid-season means there is no pre-season, and there is barely any time for training. The focus is solely on the matches,” Palmer said.
Despite the club’s recent struggles, the England international expressed confidence in Rosenior’s abilities, insisting that the coach could make a significant impact given the right conditions.
“However, the manager is competent, and once he has a proper pre-season to convey his ideas effectively and implement his desired style of play, he is an exceptional coach,” he added.
Palmer also acknowledged that improvement must come from within the squad, stressing the importance of players performing at their best while reinforcing the team with quality additions.
“If we, as players, perform to our potential and acquire the right players, both he and we as a collective can achieve significant progress,” he noted.
The 21-year-old has himself faced scrutiny in recent weeks, with critics pointing to a dip in form. Injuries have also disrupted his campaign, though he has still managed 10 goals and three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Chelsea will now turn their attention to the FA Cup semi-final on 26 April, while continuing their push to secure a top-five finish in the league.
Inconsistent Chelsea loses to Servette despite early advantage but manages to advance
Previously, TheRadar reported that Chelsea’s journey into the league phase of the Europa Conference League has been sealed, although it was far from straightforward. Facing Servette in Switzerland, Chelsea went into the second leg with a 2-0 lead from Stamford Bridge.
The game was also notable for Noni Madueke’s continued impressive form. Fresh off a hat-trick against Wolves and a first England call-up, he was one of Chelsea’s best players, though he was frustrated by Servette’s defence.
