Fabian Hürzeler, the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion, has expressed admiration for Arsenal, stating that if the Gunners win the Premier League this season, they will fully deserve the title.
According to a post by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on X on Friday, Hürzeler said, “I will be the first one to congratulate Arsenal when they win the Premier League, because if they win it, they will definitely deserve it.”
The comments come after a period of debate surrounding his previous remarks, which Hürzeler claimed were taken out of context.
“There were things that made me emotional, I am a person that sticks to my principles… and it created a lot of noise,” he explained, acknowledging the reaction his earlier statements had generated.
Hürzeler also confirmed that he had personally reached out to Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, to clarify his intentions and express his respect.
“I’ve texted Arteta. I have huge respect for him, one of the top managers in the Premier League. I love to see them play, and I admire a lot of elements of what they are doing. My comments were nothing personal,” Hürzeler added.
The Brighton manager’s statement underscores his admiration for Arsenal’s style of play and the achievements of Arteta’s team, emphasising that his previous remarks should not be interpreted as criticism of the club or its manager.
Hürzeler’s comments also highlight the competitive yet respectful nature of the Premier League, where managers publicly acknowledge the strengths of rival teams while focusing on their own campaigns.
Arsenal currently sit near the top of the Premier League standings, with fans and pundits alike watching closely as the title race intensifies. Hürzeler’s message of respect reflects the broader appreciation among managers for Arteta’s tactical approach and the Gunners’ consistent performances this season.
By clarifying his position, Hürzeler aims to put to rest any misunderstandings and reiterate that his admiration for Arsenal remains genuine, irrespective of the competitive stakes in the league.
