England have officially appointed Thomas Tuchel as the new manager of the men's national team, with English coach Anthony Barry as his assistant. 

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss succeeds Gareth Southgate and will lead the team into the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel, 51, has an impressive track record, having won the Champions League with Chelsea and league titles in Germany and France. 

The FA considered several candidates, including Pep Guardiola, but chose former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel.

1. Humble beginnings: Tuchel was born in Krumbach, a small town in southeast Germany, in 1973. His first club was TSV Krumbach, where his father coached him.

2. Early career end: He was a promising footballer who played for Germany at youth level and signed his first professional contract with Stuttgarter Kickers. However, he retired at 25 due to knee injuries.

3. Late start in coaching: After his playing career ended, Tuchel didn’t immediately jump into coaching. Instead, he studied Business Administration and worked in a bar to support himself.

4. Coaching breakthrough: After shadowing coaches at Stuttgart’s academy, he became their U14 head coach in 2000. Nine years later, he became head coach of Mainz's first team.

5. Rapid rise: Tuchel quickly transitioned from managing youth teams to taking the reins at Bundesliga club Mainz in 2009, just nine years after his bar job.

6. Paris Saint-Germain success: Tuchel enjoyed immense success at PSG, winning 95 of his 127 games. His win percentage of 75.6% is the highest of any Ligue 1 manager.

7. Champions League final redemption: After losing the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League final with PSG, Tuchel led Chelsea to victory in the 2020-21 final, defeating Manchester City.

8. Consecutive UCL finals with different clubs: Tuchel is the only manager to lead two different teams (PSG and Chelsea) to UEFA Champions League finals in consecutive seasons.

9. Chelsea’s defensive record: Under Tuchel, Chelsea became known for their defensive solidity, breaking a clean sheet record by not conceding at home in his first five games at Stamford Bridge.

10. Record breaker at PSG: Tuchel’s PSG set a record by winning their first 14 league matches of the 2018-19 season, creating a 14-point lead by December.

11. Historic domestic dominance: Tuchel led PSG to two successive Ligue 1 titles, and his side also amassed a record 47 points from their first 17 matches of the 2018-19 season.
