Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Arsenal following the club’s emergence as champions of the 2025/2026 English Premier League season, describing their success as a product of patience, strategic planning and long-term vision.

In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said Arsenal’s title-winning campaign reflected the importance of consistency, youth development and strong institutional direction — qualities he believes Nigeria must embrace in order to achieve meaningful economic growth and national development.

TheRadar reports that Arsenal were officially crowned Premier League champions on Tuesday after Manchester City dropped crucial points in a draw against Bournemouth, a result that confirmed the North London club as winners of the league title.

Reacting to the development, the former presidential candidate drew parallels between Arsenal’s football philosophy and the economic vision he hopes to implement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Atiku, the club’s achievement did not happen by chance but was the result of years of rebuilding, investment in young players and commitment to a clear tactical identity under sustained leadership.

“Arsenal’s victory did not happen overnight,” Atiku stated.
“My vision has always been to build an economy that works for all — driven by enterprise, strengthened by institutional reforms, and powered by the energy of our youth.”

The former vice president noted that Nigeria could learn valuable lessons from Arsenal’s approach to development, stressing that the country must prioritise investment in its citizens while implementing reforms capable of strengthening democratic and economic institutions.

“Just as Arsenal invested in youth development and a clear footballing philosophy, Nigeria must invest in its people, reform its institutions, and stay committed to a coherent economic strategy,” he added.

Atiku further praised the resilience shown by the club throughout the season, noting that success in both sports and governance requires discipline, planning and a commitment to long-term objectives rather than short-term gains.

The former vice president, who is widely expected to remain a key figure in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, also encouraged Arsenal to crown their remarkable campaign with European success.

“Having conquered England, I encourage Arsenal to set their sights firmly on the UEFA Champions League,” he said.
