  • The former Super Eagles forward scored his first goal after just five minutes
  • “I’m glad to be back in the NPFL and to contribute to my team’s success,” said Musa after the match

Super Eagles legend Ahmed Musa made a sensational return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as he guided Kano Pillars to a 2-0 victory over Sunshine Stars on matchday five.

The veteran forward, back for his third stint with the Sai Masu Gida side, showed his brilliance by netting both goals in front of an excited home crowd. Musa’s early opener set the tone, and he doubled the lead shortly after the break to secure the team’s first win in four league outings.

At the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Musa took just five minutes to put Kano Pillars ahead, with the home side dominating the play right from the beginning of the match. The second half saw him once again at the heart of the action, slotting in his second goal just six minutes after the break, sealing a much-needed victory for his side.

Reflecting on his performance, Musa was full of gratitude to the fans and his team,

“I’m glad to be back in the NPFL and to contribute to my team’s success,” he said after the match.

He also added on X (formerly Twitter),

“Back in familiar colours, and it feels so good! Grateful to the entire backroom staff, my teammates, management of Kano Pillars FC for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to return. Scoring two goals and earning that penalty was just the start, we’ve got a lot more coming!”

The former Super Eagles legend had successful spells at Russian side CSKA Moscow, Premier League side Leicester City and other spells at VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands, and Al-Nassr which all validate his leadership role at his new side.

With Musa’s leadership and goal-scoring prowess, Kano Pillars look forward to a promising NPFL campaign, and the fans are eagerly anticipating more victories.

The former CSKA Moscow and VVV Venlo forward, Ahmed Musa, decided to return to Kano Pillars for a third spell purely out of his deep love and passion for his boyhood club.

As a billionaire in naira, it’s clear that financial incentives from Kano Pillars were not a driving force behind his return. Musa’s choice to rejoin the club shows his commitment to giving back to the community that shaped him.

A history-making player, Musa holds the record as Nigeria’s top scorer in World Cup history, with four goals in seven matches, and he previously won the NPFL Golden Boot in the 2009-2010 season.

Osimhen eyes Odegbami’s record in Super Eagles’ game against Rwanda

Previously, TheRadar reported that Victor Osimhen added another chapter to his remarkable career, becoming Nigeria’s third-highest goal scorer by netting his 22nd goal in a 3-0 win against Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7.

Now trailing only Rashidi Yekini and Segun Odegbami, Osimhen is on the path to etching his legacy among the legends of Nigerian football. Yekini, who scored 37 goals in 58 matches, set a high standard for future strikers, but Osimhen is determined to keep climbing up the score chart.
