- English club Manchester United has agreed to a €50m transfer fee with PSG for Manuel Ugarte, with up to €10m in add-ons
- France-based PSG secured a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement
- Ugarte will be United’s fifth signing of the summer, pushing their spend to over £190 million
Manchester United have successfully negotiated a €50 million (£42.29 million) transfer fee with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte, with an additional €10 million (£8.46 million) potentially included as part of the deal.
Ugarte’s arrival at United would cap a summer-long pursuit of the midfielder, who joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon just a year ago for a reported €60 million.
The 23-year-old played 37 games for PSG last season, including 25 in Ligue 1, where he contributed to the club's 12th league title.
As part of the transfer agreement, PSG has secured a 10% sell-on clause, a detail that both clubs reportedly find satisfactory.
The finalisation of Ugarte’s transfer depends on McTominay completing his medical in Italy. Despite Erik ten Hag's reluctance to guarantee McTominay a starting spot, the Scotland international played a significant role for United last season, featuring in 32 Premier League matches and scoring seven goals.
He also started in United’s FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City.
Manchester United has strategically utilised the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations, which favour the sale of home-grown players like McTominay.
Although United first considered offers for him last year, it is only now that his departure seems imminent.
Fabrizio Romano, a well-known Italian transfer journalist, confirmed the deal on X (formerly Twitter), stating,
“Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United, here we go! Deal sealed between clubs after personal terms agreed in July. €50m fixed fee plus €10m add-ons will be the final package. Ugarte will travel to Manchester as he ONLY wanted United… and United only wanted him. Done.”
Once completed, Ugarte’s signing will be United’s fifth of the summer, bringing their total expenditure to over £190 million. Under Erik ten Hag, United have now invested close to £600 million in new players since 2022, as the club continues its ambitious rebuild.
